FAQs
Can we stop by to see your animals? Do you offer traditional farm visits?
This is our most frequently asked question and the answer is, no. We do not allow visitors to just “pop in” for the day or simply come by to see the animals. We do not offer traditional farm visits in that you pay a fee to see the animals and give them treats or try to pet them for a few minutes.
We find people do not often find value for money in these kinds of visits, and as a working farm we do not have the time or staff to accommodate this type of visit. Instead, we offer very unique experiences that allow for more personal interactions with the llamas and alpacas that you would not be able to get from a short stop-by.

What types of experiences do you offer for interactions with the animals?
We currently offer two unique alpaca experiences at Durrant Farms. The two experiences are called “Brunch with Alpacas” and “Alpaca Happy Hour.” Both experiences give you about an hour to spend in the pasture with the herd and include treats to share with the llamas and alpacas. Read below for more specifics on each experience.
- Brunch with the Alpacas – This is a morning/early afternoon experience in which we will set you up with a full picnic setting in a covered area of the pasture. You will have the option of coffee, orange juice, or tea for each member of your party. We also provide water, fresh fruit, locally-sourced biscuits, and jam preserves. We require a reservation with at least 48 hours advance notice. We coordinate directly with our guests to figure out the best time and date. We will also take into account any dietary restrictions and allergies and adjust the menu accordingly.
- Alpaca Happy Hour – This is an afternoon/early afternoon experience in which we will set you up with a full picnic setting in a covered area of the pasture. You will have the option to bring your own beverages. Please note, we do not serve alcohol on our property. We provide water, crackers, cheese, and nuts. We will also provide the appropriate glassware for whatever type of beverage you choose to bring for yourself. We require a reservation with at least 48 hours advance notice. I see you have a b&b on your property. Do we have to be guests of the b&b in order to visit the animals?
No, you do not have to be a b&b guest in order to book experiences on our property. We allow people from the general public to partake in either of our unique alpaca experiences.
Do you have to make a reservation for alpaca experiences?
Yes, we require reservations for all of our experiences. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
How do you make a reservation? There is nowhere to choose a time for my experience. How do I know there is a slot available?
In order to ensure the time/date you wish to reserve a reservation is available, you can call or text us at 828-539-0689 or send us an email at hello@durrantfarms.com. Once you’ve confirmed the time you want to reserve is available, you can then purchase passes in our farm shop for each member of your group. After your purchases have been made, we will send you an email confirmation.
Are your experiences kid-friendly? Do you offer special pricing for kids?
Yes and yes! The llamas and alpacas in our herd are gentle and sweet creatures that interact really well with small humans. We have a high-chair available on-request for toddlers and babies. We offer child-pricing for children ages 8 or younger.
Do you have any other animals besides llamas and alpacas?
As of April 2024, we are excited to bring both chickens and honey bees to our working farm! We do not currently have experiences available to interact with the chickens or the bees, but we will be selling eggs and honey in our farm store in the coming months, so stay tuned!
Are your experiences weather dependent? What happens if there is inclement weather?
Our alpaca/llama experiences are weather dependent. These types of outdoor experiences are much less enjoyable in rainy/cold weather. We close experiences during the winter months for this reason. That being said, we still get storms and cold weather in other seasons and we have policies in place for such events. See below.
In the event of inclement weather on the day of your reservation, you will have two options: cancel or reschedule. We know many people have tight schedules and cannot always accommodate a last minute schedule change. If a cancellation is required due to inclement weather, we offer full refunds for those experiences. We do not offer refunds for rescheduling.
What is your cancellation policy?
*Change of Reservation* When a guest needs to decrease the number of people in a party for an experience they’ve already paid for, the guest will receive a refund for said number of people. When a guest needs to increase the number of their party, they will need to purchase additional passes per the number of people in the group. There are no additional fees for changing a reservation up to the time of the reservation.
*Canceled by Guest or No-show* When a guest does not show up for their reservation, they are not entitled to a refund. If a guest chooses to cancel their reservation, the policy changes depending how far out the reservation is set for. – Cancellations more than 15 days in advance receive 100% of payment, less service fees. – Cancellations within 14 days or less receive 50% of payment. – Cancellations within 48 hours will not receive a refund. No shows will not receive a refund.
*Canceled by Host* If Durrant Farms cancels a reservation, the guest automatically receives a full refund.
