🌾 July on the Farm: Growing Together

Hello from the green and growing fields of Durrant Farms Estate,
Summer is in full swing here, and the farm is alive with color, energy, and delicious garden scents on the breeze. July brings long days, lots of tending, and a few exciting ways for you to join us in the rhythm of farm life.
Whether you’re looking for a little dirt therapy, curious about what’s sprouting in the garden, or planning your next visit, there’s so much happening this month—and we’d love to share it with you.
🌱 From Seed to Supper: A Garden Update from Stella

The garden is absolutely thriving right now, thanks to the care and creativity of our land manager, Stella. Here’s the latest from their hands in the dirt:
“The garden is in bloom at Durrant Farms. We’ve been busy planting starts and seeds this spring—tomatoes, spicy peppers, cabbage, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cucumbers, beets, turnips, kale, lettuce, all the herbs, marigolds, sweet alyssum, and so many more tasty treats.
One thing we’re especially excited about? Our Three Sisters beds—an ancient Indigenous planting method. We’ve built six 3’x3′ mounds where corn, beans, and squash grow in harmony. The corn is already knee-high, and the beans are twirling their way up the stalks like dancers. We’ve started harvesting snap peas, kale, lettuce, broccoli, and fresh flowers.
Looking ahead, we’re dreaming even bigger. With more land to work with, we plan to expand into perennial crops and a full fruit tree section—and start growing larger subsistence crops like potatoes. It’s an exciting season of sowing both seeds and long-term dreams.”
While our garden isn’t open for public picking (just yet!), guests staying in our Airbnb may enjoy a fresh veggie or herb surprise during their visit. It’s just one of the little ways we love to share the farm’s abundance with those who stay awhile.
🦙 Herd Health Day: A Monthly Check-In with the Boys

Every month, we dedicate a day to giving our alpacas a thorough check-up—and this past Herd Health Day was a smooth and successful one! These monthly check-ins help us ensure every member of the herd is feeling their best and staying protected from common parasites and illness.
Here’s what we do during herd health:
- Check eyes, ears, bodies, and feet for any signs of concern
- Administer preventative shots for worms and disease
- Do a general physical exam to keep close tabs on everyone’s condition
We’re happy to report that all of our boys are healthy and thriving. Brinkley even hung out in the llama chute for a while just for pets—and we weren’t about to say no.
Caring for our herd is one of the most grounding and rewarding parts of farm life. These gentle creatures give us so much joy, and Herd Health Day is our way of returning the favor.

It’s a lovely write-up capturing what makes a morning on the farm so special: a peaceful setting, delicious food, and the magical presence of our alpaca crew.
That’s All for Now
Thanks for being part of our farm community. Whether you’ve joined us for brunch, stayed overnight, helped us weed the garden, or just follow along for the stories—we’re so glad you’re here.
This land keeps teaching us how to grow with care and intention. With your help, we’re planting deeper roots every season.
We hope to see you soon—maybe for a volunteer day, a garden chat, or just a peaceful stroll past the pasture fence.
With appreciation and alpaca cuddles,
The Durrant Farms Team
