Durrant Farms Newsletter
Hi Pal!
I know it’s been awhile since you last heard from us! It has been quite eventful on both the farm and in our region over the last 2 months. As I am sure you are aware, much of Western North Carolina was devastated by the impacts from hurricane Helene at the end of September. The widespread effects of the hurricane in our area has been a lot to grapple with, but we have been taking it day by day and helping out where we can. Thankfully, our farm was not severely impacted by the storm and all the animals are safe and sound.
While the region works to rebuild and recover, we have been able to offer shelter and resources to those in need. We were even able to host a helicopter pilot who came to help bring supplies to areas that couldn’t be reached by road. Needless to say, the journey ahead to recovery will be long, but we are WNC strong. Keep reading for more ways you can help Western North Carolina rebuild after Helene.
In other news, we are overwhelmed with joy in welcoming our sweet baby boy, Dean Alder Durrant to the world…and the farm! Dean was born on September 17th at 11:11am, weighing 7lbs and 15oz, and 19 inches long. Through the chaos of the storm, we could not be more grateful for our sweet and healthy man to have made his arrival when he did. At over a month old now, Dean has been enjoying lots of time with mom and dad, watching the leaves change and fall, and meeting the alpacas!
Seasonal Closure of Alpaca Experiences
As the leaves continue falling, our mountains are beginning to lose their color, and our days are starting to feel shorter and shorter. Needless to say, winter is coming and it’s time to close alpaca experiences for the season. Alpaca brunch and happy hour will return in the spring, but if you can’t quite wait until then to see our boys, our AirBnb will remain open for guests!
Things got quite spooky on the farm this October, we even had a visit from a ghost! Just kidding! It’s only Ralph, who was a very willing participant in the ghost challenge. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as we did getting them.
Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
In an effort to continue to help our community recover, our special offerings are going to look a little different over the next few months. With experiencing a drastic decrease in tourism, we deeply appreciate any and all support, and one of the best ways to support us is through our farm store!
- 10% of all Durrant Farms sales will go toward recovery efforts
- Receive free shipping on blanket orders when you use code FREESHIPPING at checkout. (DEAL HAS ENDED)
- Buy a Western NC strong shirt to support our farm while we lack tourism
Our t-shirt supplier, Recover Brands, has started a t-shirt fundraiser to help WNC businesses that have been impacted by Helene. They are printing t-shirts on-demand and giving the profits back to the businesses. How sweet, right? These specialty t-shirts have to purchased directly from Recover. Check out their site to see all of their recovery efforts and use THIS LINK to purchase our Durrant Farms fundraiser t-shirt! This shirt is produced with fabric made of 100% certified recycled materials in North Carolina.
That’s all for now. Thanks always for being a part of our community. If you know anyone that might enjoy updates from our farm, forward them this message or send them directly to our newsletter signup link! We appreciate you and can’t wait to host you on the farm soon.
